The Mordecai & Oakwood historic districts located in northern downtown Raleigh have some of the deepest roots in all of NC, even playing an integral part in the revolutionary war. Anchored by the Moredcai house, this area boats some of the most unique, charming, and historically significant architecture in our state. It’s also famous for the huge oak trees you’ll find at every turn, and world class gardens & landscaping.
In addition to the historic homes and buildings, this area has seen a huge influx of modern, and warehouse style shops, restaurants, and offices, that compliment the retro charm perfectly.
Carving out a niche as something of an arts district, the area is extremely popular with successful young professionals who you can always find at one of many walkable and hip restaurants, taking a load off at famous Oakwood Park, or walking the shady and pleasant neighborhood avenues.
Another wonderful feature of this area is the Raleigh City Farm, which is a nonprofit urban farm founded in 2011 to help locals grow their own sustainable food and small produce businesses. It is a favorite destination for the area due to its uniqueness and the good they do for the community & environment.
